Top Things to Do in Camiguin: Must-Try Activities in 2025

Discover the best experiences Camiguin has to offer in 2025. From volcanic island adventures and hidden waterfalls to cultural gems and beach escapes. This guide highlights must-try activities for every kind of traveler.

General Information

Camiguin is an island province that is part of Mindanao, located 10 kilometers north of the mainland Mindanao.

For the best beach weather, aim for January to April. This is the Philippines’ dry season, and you’ll have the best chance for sunny days. While January can sometimes be a bit rainy, it’s generally a great time to visit.

For real-time weather forecast, it is best to check the weather prior to your trip to ensure that you will enjoy the island has to offer. You can check Camiguin Island’s daily weather forecast by going to PAGASA’s real-time weather monitoring.

If you’re interested in experiencing a major local celebration, plan your trip around the Lanzones Festival, which happens on the third week of October. Just be sure to book your accommodations well in advance, as the island gets busy during this popular event.

People in Camiguin also speaks Bisaya as their main dialect to communicate. However, if you are travelling from Manila or from a different country, you don’t have to worry because the locals are very fluent in speaking Tagalog and English.

Ways to Get There

There are two ways to visit the island:

  • By Air: Fly directly to the Camiguin Airport (CGM) located at Mambajao. There are direct flight schedules  from Cebu, operated by Cebgo (a subsidiary of Cebu Pacific). If you are coming from Manila, you will need to have a connecting flight.
  • By Sea: The most popular and most used route is to take a ferry from Balingoan Port in Misamis Oriental to Benoni Port in Camiguin. This is the final trip you need to take after landing to Cagayan De Oro’s Laguindingan Airport (CGY).

Where to Stay

When it comes to planning your dream getaway, Camiguin Island is nothing short of a paradise! So, where to stay? Let’s dive into some fabulous options that will make your vacation unforgettable.

Imagine waking up to the sound of waves lapping at the shore and stepping out onto soft, sandy beaches right outside your door! Beachfront hotels in Camiguin offer just that magical experience.

My personal recommendation is Playa Del Fuego. This beach front resort is located 10 minutes away from the airport at Mambajao which makes it incredibly convenient for exploring the island’s best spots.

Getting Around in the Island

To explore the island, you have three options depending on the number of people you are travelling with that can guide you throughout your trip:

  • Motorcycle: This is the most popular and the most cost-effective way to get around the island. If you’re travelling with one person, I highly recommend renting a motorbike for a daily rate and you can explore and drive around the island at your own pace.
  • Multicab: If you are travelling with a group and don’t want to drive yourself, you can rent a multicab with a driver for a day tour or you can opt to rent the multicab only and drive it yourself or someone in the group.
  • Tricycle: This is the most common mode of transportation of the locals which is also everywhere in the island. If you don’t want to drive a motorcycle yourself and prefer to have a driver, this is a good option to get around. You can also get around in the island with this option for short distance travel.

Top Camiguin Activities and Things to Do

Camiguin is packed with attractions, and many can be explored on a single-day tour. Here are some must-visit spots:

White Island

Escape to the serene beauty of White Island, where a stunning, unattached sandbar of fine, powdery white sand emerges from a crystal-clear sea.

This incredible natural wonder provides a breathtaking photo opportunity with the dramatic background of Mount Hibok-Hibok and Mount Vulcan on the horizon.

Mantigue Island

This pristine marine sanctuary features a small forest and a beautiful white-sand beach. The island is renowned for its exceptional snorkeling and diving, thanks to a nearby sea rich with vibrant corals and diverse marine life.

My personal favorite trip of our Camiguin trip was the island’s long sandbar, which creates a perfect backdrop of Mount Hibok-Hibok for photos. You can also enjoy free snorkeling right off the beach upon arrival. You can also pay a tourist guide in the island to guide you where the best snorkel spots in the island are.

Sunken Cemetery

A popular site where the cross emerges from the sea, marking the site of a cemetery that once existed but now submerged. You can pay a tourist guide to drive you on a boat to get on the actual cross. You can also snorkel in the area to get a closer look of the old tombstones.

Tuasan Falls

Camiguin island has two major waterfalls, one of it is Tuasan falls. A lovely waterfall with a calm mood, tucked away in a peaceful jungle environment. This waterfall is smaller compared to Katibawasan Falls and the drive here is a bit challenging so you need to be extra careful when travelling here.

This is a 70-meter tall waterfall and the tallest waterfall in the island. With its stunning views and natural surroundings, the drive to Katibawasan Falls is as exciting as the final destination. Katibawasan Falls offers something for everyone, regardless of whether you’re a serious hiker or just seeking a peaceful getaway.

Ardent Hot Springs

This is a volcanic hot spring that have several artificial pools of different temperatures. After a long and tiring day of exploring, it’s the perfect spot to unwind.

A cold spring that uses bubbling, naturally carbonated water from a volcanic spring. They have a designated spot where you can drink the naturally carbonated water!

Old Gui-ob Church Ruins

This is what remains of the Gui-ob church. It is the ruins of a 16th century church made of coral stone, destroyed by the same volcanic eruption that submerged the Sunken Cemetery caused by Mount Hibok-Hibok.

Tongatok View Deck

Tongatok View Deck offers one of the island’s most stunning roadside panoramas. Located along the Camiguin Circumferential Road between Mambajao and Catarman, it is a simple pull-over spot with no entry of parking fees, making it a convenient stop for travelers exploring nearby attractions like Sunken Cemetery and Old Gui-Ob Church Ruins.
